The 7th ICSDAP biennial conference on "Social Unrest, Peace and Development" started today (on 14 September) at IU. It will also continue to be held tomorrow. International Consortium for Social Development, Asia-Pacific Branch (ICSDAP) and the Department of Social Welfare, Islamic University, Kushtia are jointly organizing this conference. Over a hundred social development experts, scholars and researchers from eight countries of Asia, Europe and Australia are participating in this two-day conference.
On the first day 41 papers were presented at different venues of IU by the scholars and researchers of home and abroad. Before paper presentation there was an inauguration ceremony which was graced by the Vice Chancellor of IU Professor Dr Rashid Askari (the Chief Patron of the conference), Professor Dr. Profullo C. Sarker (Vice Chancellor, Royal University of Dhaka), Professor Dr. M. Shahinoor Rahman (Patron of the conference and Pro-Vice Chancellor of IU), Professor Dr. Manohar Pawar (Patron of the Conference, President, ICSD and Professor of Social Work, Charles Sturt University, Australia), Professor Dr. Md. Selim Toha (Treasurer of IU), Professor Dr. Asok Kumar Sarkar (Chairperson, ICSDAP and Principal, Institute of Rural Reconstruction, Visva-Bharati University, Sriniketan, India) and Professor Dr. Mamunur Rahman (Professor of the Dept. of English, IU and Conference Coordinator).
On the first day the Chief Patron of the Conference Professor Dr. Rashid Askari (VC of IU) also presented a paper on "Bangladesh: Development in a Decade" while the keynote speaker Professor Dr. Manohar Pawar presented paper on the main theme of the conference "Social Unrest, Peace and Social Development".
