ABOUT

The Department of Social Welfare at Islamic University is a new academic discipline founded in the year 2018. The Department aims at creating competent human capital by developing trained professional social workers who can serve the societal and corporate needs of both national and international communities with efficiency and success. 

The Department follows up-to-the-minute curriculum, which emphasizes developing a strong theoretical base combined with practical knowledge as students are required to complete internship in organizations like NGOs, industries, hospitals and the like to be qualified for an academic degree from this Department. The curriculum of the bachelor program with honours is designed and prepared in a fashion that students will grow up with competence and with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge to work successfully in various sectors like Women Development, Medical Social Service Projects, Population Welfare, Labor Welfare, Educational Institutions, Research Organizations, Health Care Organizations, Administrative positions in National and International NGOs, Planning and development Organizations, Urban and Rural Community Development Projects, Family & Child Welfare, Criminology and Correctional Administration, School Social Work and so on.

This state of the art modern applied social science has been bringing up students with a global outlook. The Department rears the learners with Social Work knowledge and education to make them capable of fighting social disorders of the 21st century. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor M. Shahinoor Rahman, PhD is the founder Chairman of Department of Social Welfare including three more brilliant faculties - Shyam Sundor Sarkar, Mamata Mustari and Asma Sadia Runa.

Mission

Enlightened by the core ethics, values, scientific research method and principles of the social work profession, the mission of the Department of Social Welfare, Islamic University, Bangladesh is to educate and prepare learners to become effective and competent social workers by providing quality education for leadership in the promotion of socio-economic justice to the society. The Department is devoted to providing transformative and collaborative learnings embracing the values of social inclusion and expansion of quality of life for persons and the groups in the national and international contexts.

Vision

Social Work education is conceived globally for bringing better and sustainable changes in the societies. To pursue the dream, our students serve as ethical change makers and leaders who are trained to explore socio-economic justice, human rights and well-being for individuals, communities and groups.

Our Goals

The Department of Social Welfare at Islamic University, Bangladesh strains a productive set of goals that well focuses the wide range of faculty and student activities;

To transmit the knowledge of social work and rendering critical thinking among the students;

To render opportunities to students for learning and engaging professional relationships;

To promote students participation in creative social research for adopting policies; 

To help students developing skills through community work with individuals, groups and the communities;
