The Islamic University was established in 1979 with a view to combine Islamic education with all branches of modern arts, science, and technology, and to produce competent scholars for the advancement of knowledge, as well as society. The Islamic University launched its academic journey in the session 1985-86 with four departments. Department of Management along with three other departments started its academic activities on June 28, 1986, under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Faculty of Business Administration has been established on September 30, 1995, with two departments namely Accounting and Management. Primarily the traditional method was followed by the department but an integrated course system was introduced from the academic session 1990-91 and offered 28 courses & internships for the degree of Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) with Honors (3 years program) and 9 courses & internship for the degree of Master of Business Studies (MBS one year program). Each academic year was equally divided into two semesters, and each course of 50 marks comprising 10 marks in-course examination and 40 marks course final examination. In keeping with the greater appeal and acceptability in the job market and successfully face the competitive environment in the modern business world, the BBS (Honors) and MBS degrees have been renamed by the academic council as Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with Honors from the session 1993-94 and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the session 1996-97. This change necessitated the adoption of 40 courses and an internship program in place of 28 courses and a four-year graduation program replacing the three-year program from the session 1994-95. In MBA, (One year program) 12 courses and an internship program are adopted in place of 10 courses.
The Department of Management launched its academic activities on 28th June 1986 with 75 students. But at present the total number of students in the department is 475 (approx.) including BBA, MBA, M. Phil., and Ph.D. and the total number of graduated students (Undergraduate, Graduate, M. Phil & Ph. D) is 1500 (approx.) The Department offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs for brilliant students with clear commitment and devotion to developing knowledge and understanding of the theoretical concepts, which are required in practical circumstances. Moreover, the Department also offers M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees under the supervision of recognized researchers.
Adequate and sincere attention has been given to designing BBA and MBA curricula so as to make it a program of international standard. The curriculum has been revised and appreciated by experts with international repute in business education. It is expected that this program would be able to play a pivotal role in the development of a new generation of managers and corporate leaders who are professionally competent and morally upright to face the challenges of this millennium.
