Bangladesh Has emerged as a role model for many developing and underdeveloped nations world-wide for its exemplary progress in the field of development. Along with the governmental commitment, many national and international organizations have been contributing through innovative projects and research. As such, there has been growing demand for skilled development practitioners with theoretical and practical knowledge of development. Under the circumstances, Islamic University, Kushtia introduced Department of Development Studies under Faculty of Social Sciences to provide a platform that enables students to acquire knowledge and become able to cope with the challenges of the contemporary development world. Despite being a recent inclusion, the department has been able to establish itself as an attraction for students from different backgrounds and also earned a reputation for its academic excellence.
The department provides as many as four programs including Bachelor of Social Science (BSS), Master of Social Science (MSS), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The programs are designed in a way that the students are equipped with skill generation, knowledge acquisition, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The co-curricular and extra-curricular activities also endue the students with empathy, leadership, integrity, and humane qualities.
The strength of the Department is its dynamic learning and teaching environment through which students will achieve their optimum potential. We have a young and energetic excellent academic team who provide a dedicated level of service to our students. I strongly believe that students graduated from this department will be well equipped with analytical knowledge on multi-dimensions of development matching with contemporary world to face the challenges of the demanding society.
